To tell a story, it is often easiest to start from the beginning. So, I must apologize, as the actual beginning of the grand story of our world -or rather, the worlds- is unknown, to an extent. Rather, I will start by teaching about the beginning of what could be called the second starting point.

For as long as man has existed, demons have too walked the Earth. They have been constant enemies to one another, but man did not always possess the proper tools to effectively combat the supernatural world of the dark. Mankind struggled for mere survival, but they were fighting a losing battle. Eventually, the state-of-affairs was such that man kind almost ceased to exist. Demonkind had almost entirely decimated the human race, whose primitive tools and weapons posed little threat to the stronger ranks of demon.

However, humanity was to be given another chance. The wisest human, a man known as Jehovah, discovered the art that would ensure the continued existence of mankind. He learned how to harness the life force of the very Earth itself, of nature...and he called this life force "mana." He found that it could be used to influence reality in a number of ways. And, after several years of research...he developed a spell that would save mankind from the inevitable destruction of their race.

The spell started by erasing everything...the purpose of the spell was to start completely over. Mankind, demonkind, the entire world...all of it was erased, and reset to nothingness. Then, by sacrificing his mortal shell as a human being, he was able to transcend humanity and become what many know today as "God." The spell gave him six days to reassemble the world into a more manageable state of affairs. Mankind was recreated, as were the beasts of the Earth, sky, and sea. The land was returned to nature, and no longer did demons plague humanity; the dark beings had mostly been destroyed, though about one-fourth of their number had survived by creating their own dimension, their own realm, now known as the Inferno, Makai...Hell. Jehovah had paid a great price, however, in activating his Genesis spell. The spell could never be used again, he had lost his human form, and over time he would lose what remained of his ethereal, all-powerful form.

He created divine beings to serve alongside him, in direct opposition to the demons. These creatures were called angels, and were sent to watch over humanity from the shadows. Further, Jehovah himself communicated with man, and re-taught the ways of magic to the world. However, only a certain and select few proved capable of harnessing magic...whether this was on an individual basis or genetic is unknown, but eventually mankind would develop into what it is today, in our world: a society that rejects magic and is largely conflicted in regards to what they believe. But Jehovah had accomplished his goal: he had given mankind another chance and passed on the art of magic to mankind.

As a failsafe, though, Jehovah had created another world, one tentatively connected to Earth. This world would be the world in which magic would abound, and it was called Mundus Magicus. The other world, the world in which the common, mundane man dwelt, was known as Mundus Vetus. And these two worlds were connected, with Mundus Vetus largely ignorant to the existence of Mundus Magicus. Over time, magi from Mundus Magicus came into the Old World and formed their own groups to help protect man. However, the magic world was -for the most part- at a consensus about keeping their world secret from the world of Mundus Vetus. The two worlds were allowed to develop, both merged and at the last time separate. Even so, as the worlds developed and history took its course, a familiar entity would soon surface from the infinite abyss.

It was an angel that became the most angry with Jehovah. The most powerful and most trusted angel, Lucifer, the Bringer of Light and Wisdom. He was, simply put, jealous...he wanted to assume God's throne, and so Lucifer led a rebellion against God and Man. However, in the end, Lucifer was defeated. He was cast from the Heavens and into the abyss, where he shed his identity as Lucifer and became the demon lord Valde Daemonis, the greatest of all demons. Valde Daemonis cursed Jehovah and man alike, and in a semi-final act of defiance, he bonded makai to Mundus Vetus. He swore that as long as sin existed in the heart of man, so too would demonkind exist and plague its mortal enemy. While a barrier was established to keep the more powerful demons sealed away in Makai, weaker ones could escape. Some even proved themselves kind and wise, helping man and mage alike. Others swore the blood oath of vengeance against all who were not demon.

Now, we can simply perform a time-skip to more recent times. You are free to imagine Mundus Vetus as our very real world. A world of man, of religion...a world often ignorant to the very existence of magic or demons. Some men have developed other methods of dealing with the supernatural...some men aren't magi and don't use magic, but are still capable of using their internal energies -called qi, for simplicity- or psychic energies to deal with supernatural opponents. Because of the minority rule, a rule which states that most of humankind is mundane and should remain unaware of magic and the supernatural, schools have been established which -in secret- serve not only as actual schools, but schools where beings with knowledge and abilities derived from the supernatural may take shelter. The constant, on-going war between "good" and "evil" rages on, as it always has...and the focus of our story is on one such magic school...Mahora Academy.
